This is explained by the fact that Western leasing companies limit the flights of their aircraft to the Russian Federation, fearing sanctions. Another RBC source clarified that leased aircraft can only fly to Russia with the permission of the lessor, and the aircraft must have insurance for flights to the Russian Federation.

One of the publication’s interlocutors said that in the current conditions, any breakdown of a foreign airline’s aircraft in Russia is accompanied by a wait for the arrival of equipment and spare parts, because foreign companies do not have access to spare parts in Russian warehouses and Russian service.
RBC, citing data from the Flightradar24 service, reports that out of 16 FlyDubai flights since the beginning of 2024, only 4 were operated on aircraft leased from leasing companies.
