The All-Russian Association of Fisheries Industry (VARPE) has proposed not to extend the zero duty, which is currently applied when importing into the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU; it includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan) surimi, minced fish used for the production of crab sticks. With such a letter, she addressed the director of the department for regulating the markets of the agro-industrial complex of the Ministry of Agriculture Maxim Titov on March 22. A representative of the ministry confirmed its receipt, saying that it was under consideration.
Initially, the EAEU import duty was set at 5%. But from September 14, 2021, a zero rate has been temporarily introduced. Its validity should end on April 30 this year, but, for example, Belarus has already taken the initiative to extend this measure for another three years. The documents explain this by the fact that blue whiting surimi is not produced on the territory of the EAEU, so the share of imports of this product is 100%.
