Fish processors warn of rising prices for mussels

The Fish Union (which unites more than 30 importers and manufacturers of fish products) warned of an increase in prices for mussel meat products due to an increase in production costs. The union announced this in a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture dated June 16. The letter was sent in preparation for the meeting of the government commission for the development of the fishery complex, which is scheduled for July 18. Materials for the commission are at the disposal of Vedomosti. The head of the “Fish Union” Alexander Panin confirmed the sending of the appeal. The Ministry of Agriculture was unable to promptly provide a comment.
In Russia, boiled-frozen mussel meat is not produced, which is used in preserves, and grown products are sold exclusively in raw-frozen form in the shell, Panin explained. Producers of preserves are forced to import raw materials – according to the Union, in 2022 they imported 9,000 tons.
