The 11th package of sanctions of the European Union (EU) prohibits the operation of trailers and semi-trailers with Russian license plates in the EU. The ban will take effect at midnight on June 24, 2023, after which Finnish customs will return the trailers back to Russia. The entry of tractors with Russian numbers into the EU was banned in April 2022.
“According to our estimates, at the moment, about 40% of commercial road transport crossing the eastern border has trailers or semi-trailers registered in Russia,”— declared Sami Rakshit, Head of Finnish Customs Control Department.
In the future, trailers and semi-trailers with Russian registration plates will be prohibited from operating in the EU, even if they are registered outside of Russia. For cargo trailers and semi-trailers currently in the EU and registered in Russia, the ban will come into force on June 30, 2023.
Total under new EU sanctions hit 71 individuals and 33 legal entities. Among other things, the EU banned the pumping of Russian oil through the northern branch of the Druzhba pipeline.
