The Finnish natural gas transmission system operator Gasgrid reported a drop in pressure in the offshore gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia. reported press service.
“Based on observations, suspicions arose that the offshore pipeline between Finland and Estonia had leaked. The offshore pipeline valves are now closed and the leak has thus been stopped,” the statement said.
Gasgrid, together with the Estonian gas transmission system operator Elering, is investigating the incident, and the state of the Finnish gas system is stable, gas supplies are provided through the Inkoo floating LNG terminal, the press service clarified.
The bidirectional gas pipeline Balticconnector was launched in 2019. It runs along the sea and land route between the Finnish Inkoo and the Estonian Paldiski.
The pipeline runs through the Gulf of Finland. On September 26, 2022, the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, which pass through the neighboring Baltic Sea, were damaged as a result of sabotage. After this, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the West of sabotage.
Initially, Germany, Sweden and Denmark planned to conduct a joint investigation with Russia, but later abandoned this idea. In October 2022, Sweden announced the completion of the investigation, but did not name those responsible for the incident.
