The series about the peculiarities of Russian life will be continued by director Stanislav Svetlov

At Alexey Uchitel’s studio, work is underway on the film “Features of the National Hospital” based on the script by Alexander Rogozhkin. The director of the film was Stanislav Svetlov, who previously directed “Ada”, the TV series “Two” and “Apartment”.

“Features of the National Hospital” is a story about a young German volunteer Werner Müller, who came to practice at the neurological hospital of St. Petersburg. He wants to help people, save them. Werner was played by 21-year-old actor Carl Philipp Benzschawel, who has been working in films since childhood. The main character will have to make many discoveries and figure out what the “mysterious Russian soul” is.

Composer and singer Arkady Ukupnik will play one of the patients of the mental hospital. In the role of a mental hospital doctor nicknamed Mymra, we will see Victoria Isakova. The film also starred: Alexey Rozin, Viktor Bychkov (almost the only hero of previous hits about the peculiarities of national life), Anna Aleksakhina, Oleg Garkusha, Oleg Ryazantsev, young actor Yura Stepanov. The producers of the film were Alexey Uchitel, Kira Saksaganskaya and Ilya Uchitel.

Alexander Rogozhkin is the director of the hit films “Peculiarities of National Hunting” and “Peculiarities of National Fishing.” He also directed The Chekist, which participated in the Un Certain Regard competition at the Cannes Film Festival, and The Guard, which was awarded the Alfred Bauer Prize at the Berlinale (it caused a scandal in Russia; he was accused of intending to discredit the country). Rogozhkin wrote the script for “Peculiarities of National Politics,” but he himself did not film the story of how General Ivolgin rushed into big-time politics. He gave this right to directors Dmitry Meskhiev and Yuri Konopkin.

A little earlier, in 2002, Rogozhkin’s film “Cuckoo” was released with the participation of actors from Finland. She was predicted to win an Oscar. She was an international success. However, the Russian Oscar committee then nominated Andrei Konchalovsky’s “House of Fools” for the Academy Award and greatly miscalculated.

Alexander Rogozhkin died in 2021 after a serious and long illness. He was 72 years old. For almost ten years before his death, he continued to write scripts, more often on the table. I haven’t taken any pictures myself. As he said, he was only ten percent successful in cinema. It is difficult to say what happened to him and why no one supported him at a difficult moment in his life. Rogozhkin’s creative ideas did not inspire pragmatic producers. And finally he was crushed by the tragic death of his wife Yulia Rumyantseva – in 2011 she jumped from the 14th floor. After this, Rogozhkin almost did not make himself known.
