Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli died in Florence, reported Corriere Della Sera. He was 83 years old. As the publication notes, the couturier was ill for a long time.
Roberto Cavalli was born in Florence on September 15, 1940. In 1957 he entered the Academy of Arts, where he studied interior design, but did not receive a diploma. Subsequently, he experimented with dyes and methods of printing on fabric, and created a series of floral designs on knitwear.
In the 1970s, Roberto Cavalli founded his own clothing brand, Roberto Cavalli. By that time, he had patented a procedure for applying patterns to leather products and created a collection of clothes using patchwork technique. The designer’s first fashion show took place in 1972 at the Palazzo Pitti mansion. That same year he opened his first boutique in Saint-Tropez.
In 2002, Roberto Cavalli was recognized as designer of the year by Fashion Group International. In 2010, the House of Cavalli received the status of “The best of the best luxury women’s clothing brand”. Today, the Roberto Cavalli brand is represented in more than 50 countries.
