FAS recognized Wildberries and Ozon as dominant in the marketplace market – Kommersant

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has established the collective dominant position of Wildberries and Ozon (MOEX: OZON) among marketplaces. Two companies occupy 80% of the market, said the head of the department, Maxim Shaskolsky. He clarified that under the conditions of a moratorium on inspections of IT companies, the FAS expects that companies will voluntarily eliminate violations.

Mr. Shaskolsky raised this topic at a meeting with representatives of the Association “NP OKUR”, marketplaces and copyright holders. He clarified that the FAS completed an analysis of the state of competition in the market in December 2023. “Naturally, Wildberries and Ozon have established a collective dominant position – together they occupy about 80% of the market. Yes, Resolution 448 is now in effect (on a moratorium on inspections of IT companies.— “Ъ”), and in order to avoid further negative consequences, we are working with companies to voluntarily eliminate violations,” he said (quoted by Interfax).

According to Maxim Shaskolsky, the FAS constantly receives “quite a lot of complaints” about the work of marketplaces from consumers, as well as from small and medium-sized businesses. “Most often they complain about inflated logistics costs, the imposition of unfavorable conditions, and the imposition of fines,” the head of the regulator listed.

In June 2022, as Kommersant reported, marketplace sellers asked the FAS to check the sales mechanism developed by online platforms. Traders complained that they were forced to participate in such promotions, which led to a reduction in their margins. If sellers refuse, online retailers have the right to increase the commission for working on the site. According to experts, at the end of 2023, the boom in the increase in the number of sellers on large marketplaces has begun to pass.
