FAS proposes to control prices not only for socially important goods

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) proposes to expand the list of goods for which it will not be possible to raise prices unreasonably. On February 18, it submitted for consideration by the working group on the regulatory guillotine under the Russian government a new version of the bill to tighten control over the cost of production in the event of speculative growth in 2023-2024. (“Vedomosti” got acquainted with its copy).
In the last version of the document in the summer of 2022, the FAS proposed to control the increase in prices by more than 30% within 60 days only for socially important products. For this, retailers in case of violations could be warned or fined. But this project eventually received a negative opinion from the Regulatory Impact Assessment Commission. Now the FAS has completely removed the term “socially significant goods” from the document. It says that the formation of the final list of products in the end should be done by the government.
