Loading on the Far Eastern Railway (Far Eastern Railway, a branch of Russian Railways) in January-March increased by 2% compared to the same period last year, to 18.6 million tons, the carrier’s press service reported today, April 3. Freight turnover during the reporting period decreased by 1.9%, to more than 60.3 billion tariff ton-kilometers.

As reported in the distributed press release, the main growth was shown by the loading of coal (by 8%, to 9.1 million tons), ferrous metal (by 11.9%, to 213.5 thousand tons), as well as industrial raw materials and molding materials (by 12.4%, up to 128.9 thousand tons) and cement (by 9.3%, up to 226.2 thousand tons). In addition, transportation of oil and petroleum products increased (by 3.5%, to 2.4 million tons) and timber cargo (by 1.4%, to 740 thousand tons).

At the same time, loading of iron and manganese ore decreased sharply (by 16.2%, to 629.5 thousand tons). A decline was also noted in the transportation of construction materials (by 6.8%, to 620 thousand tons). Container loading decreased by 6.7%, to 589 thousand tons.

In March, loading at Far Eastern Railway stations exceeded 6.5 million tons of cargo, which is 1.9% more than the volume in March last year. Freight turnover in March amounted to 20.6 billion tariff ton-kilometers, with a decline of 5.6%.
