Faitless frontman Maxi Jazz, who performed ‘Insomnia’ and ‘God Is a DJ’, dies

Faithless vocalist Maxi Jazz has died at the age of 65, the band said. Maxi Jazz became famous with such hits as “God Is a DJ” and “Insomnia”. Faithless did not give a cause of death.
“He was a man who changed our lives in many ways. He gave the proper meaning and message to our music,” said the other two main members of the group – Rollo and Sister Bliss – on Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned, quoted by Reuters). On Twitter, Faithless reported that Maxi Jazz passed away peacefully in his sleep. The message did not indicate the cause of death.
Maxi Jazz’s real name was Maxwell Frazier, he was born in south London and was involved in the creation of Faithless in 1995.
Faithless’s 1995 song “Insomnia”, which features a jazzy sleep-fighting rap with the chorus “I can’t get no sleep”, was voted the fifth greatest dance record of all time by readers of dance music magazine Mixmag in 2013.
“If I had a pound for every time someone comes up and says, ‘I can’t sleep,’ I’d live on a space station,” Maxi Jazz joked in a 2020 interview.
