ExxonMobil is working to transfer the assets of the Sakhalin-1 project to a third party. This was reported in the company’s financial report, published on Wednesday at site US Securities and Exchange Commission. The third party to whom the assets will be transferred is not named in the document.
“The Corporation announced at the beginning of 2022 that it plans to stop work on the Sakhalin-1 project and develop steps to exit the enterprise. The Corporation continues to pay special attention to ensuring the safety of employees, production activities and the environment. The Corporation complies with all applicable laws and sanctions and is currently engaged in the transfer of operating activities on the Sakhalin-1 project to another party,” the document states.
In March, the American private oil company ExxonMobil became the operator of Sakhalin-1 announced, which comes out of the Russian oil and gas project in connection with the start of a military special operation in Ukraine. The company owns 30% of the shares, another 20% belongs to Rosneft, 30% to the Japanese Sodeco and 20% to the Indian ONGC.
Earlier, Indian media wrote that the Indian state-owned company ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) intends expand the staff of its employees in the project in order to increase participation in its implementation together with Rosneft after the departure of ExxonMobil.
In May, OVL announced that it wanted to buy Shell’s stake in the Sakhalin-2 project and ExxonMobil’s stake in the Sakhalin-1 project. Later, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decree, according to which the property of Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd., acting as the operator of Sakhalin-2 (shareholders – Gazprom, Shell, Mitsui & Co., Mitsubishi), will be transferred to the Russian operator. Today, August 3, the government instructed register it in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, it will be given the name Sakhalin Energy LLC.
