The Ministry of Culture checks the exposition of the Tretyakov Gallery because of a complaint from a certain Sergei Shadrin. The Ministry demanded that the Tretyakov Gallery report on the compliance of the exhibition with spiritual and moral values by February 6.
Edition “New news” writes that Mr. Shadrin complained about the museum’s exposition, which contains scenes of “numerous funerals, including in the presence of marginal social elements”, “drunken alcoholism” and “voluntaristic interpretations” of the images of Russian rulers and cultural figures. This is an exposition dedicated to the art of the second half of the 20th century.
Sergey Shadrin was also outraged by the Last Supper cycle, where “it is impossible to understand who Judas is”, and the absence of a head near the statue of the Virgin (Alexander Burganov’s work “Pieta”). Mr. Shadrin considered this a “devilish interpretation” of a religious story.
In response to this appeal, the Deputy Department of Museums and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Culture, Natalia Chechel, sent a letter to the director of the Tretyakov Gallery, Zelfira Tregulova, demanding an explanation.
“The practice of working with such documents (complaint.— “b”) provides for a request from subordinate institutions for reference information necessary to write a response to a citizen, ”the ministry explained (quote from RIA Novosti). The Ministry of Culture will analyze the information received before responding to the complaint, the fact that the Tretyakov Gallery has been given a deadline for responding is related to the current legislation.
