Exports of lumber from Russia decreased by 10% in 2023 – Kommersant

The volume of exports of Russian lumber in 2023 amounted to 20.7 million cubic meters, which is 10% lower than in 2022 (23 million cubic meters), reported press service “Roslesinforga”. The share of lumber exports to Asian countries reached 98% last year, up from 87% in 2022, the organization said.
China remained the largest importer of Russian lumber in 2023 (13 million cubic meters). The second place in supplies was taken by Uzbekistan (2 million cubic meters), which increased imports by 8% last year, and Kazakhstan was in third (926 thousand cubic meters, +17% year-on-year). The volume of lumber exports to China remained at the 2022 level, reports Roslesinforg.
According to the organization, the top ten largest importers of lumber from Russia in 2023 included mainly Asian countries: Azerbaijan (516 thousand cubic meters), Tajikistan (482 thousand), Kyrgyzstan (417 thousand), Iran (392 thousand), South Korea (340 thousand), Japan (337 thousand) and Hong Kong (283 thousand).
Roslesinforg notes that Estonia, Japan, Singapore and Finland left the top ten largest importers of lumber in 2023. Product exports grew the most last year to Turkey – 2.3 times, to 254 thousand cubic meters, Kyrgyzstan – by 36%, South Korea – by 28%, Egypt – by 18%, to 250 thousand cubic meters, Kazakhstan – by 17%, Hong Kong – by 16% and the UAE – by 11%, up to 280 thousand cubic meters.
