Supplies of salmon species (including salmon, chum salmon, pink salmon, etc.) from Russia to China in 2022 almost doubled to 73,800 tons compared to the year before. The information is provided by the All-Russian Association of Fishermen (VARPE), referring to the data of Chinese customs. In monetary terms, this export item increased by 2.5 times to $249.9 million. The representative of the Federal Agency for Fishery confirmed the growth in supplies, but did not disclose specific figures. Earlier, a representative of the agency called China the main country for the export of Russian fish products with a supply volume of more than 1 million tons per year.
The increase in external shipments occurred against the backdrop of a decrease in production volumes. As a result of the salmon fishing season, 271,000 tons of fish were caught in 2022, while in 2021 the figure was 539,000 tons. which should stabilize prices. But, as the Kommersant newspaper wrote, the official’s statement, on the contrary, led to an increase in the cost of fish. For 20 days of September, pink salmon has risen in price by 28% to 320,000 rubles. per 1 ton, chum salmon – by 22% to 440,000 rubles, the publication cited VARPE data. As a result, the idea of limiting exports was abandoned.
