The volume of electricity generation at coal-fired thermal power plants (TPPs) in the world in 2022 continued to grow due to high gas prices, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) Electricity Market Report. But, starting from 2023, the agency expects a decrease in coal-fired generation.
The report notes that in 2022, electricity generation from coal-fired thermal power plants increased by 1.7% to 10,450 TWh (10.45 trillion kWh). A year earlier, the output of coal-fired thermal power plants increased by more than 8% to 10,279 TWh (10.28 trillion kWh). 1 TWh corresponds to 1 billion kWh.
