The market for road construction (DST) and special equipment continues to decline against the backdrop of short deliveries. In the third quarter, the decline reached 43.4%, and in January-September, the volume of sold equipment is less than half of the record results of last year. Moreover, all segments of this market are now in the red, and in a number of them nothing has been sold for three months.
Sales of DST and special equipment in the third quarter fell by 43.4%, to almost 3 thousand units, follows from the data (.pdf) profile committee of the Association of European Businesses (covers about 80% of the segment). The market decline accelerated: in the second quarter, sales decreased by 37.1% (3.3 thousand units), and in the pre-crisis first quarter, the segment grew by almost a quarter (see Kommersant dated August 3).
As a result, in January-September the market decreased by 25.1% to 10.7 thousand cars.
At the end of 2021, the market was a record and grew (see Kommersant dated February 10) immediately by 47%, up to 22.5 thousand cars. But this spring, foreign players suspended their activities in the Russian Federation amid the logistical crisis and sanctions due to the military operation in Ukraine. Including sanctions partially prohibited the supply of equipment to Russia from the European Union and Japan. In fact, the market, in addition to domestic players, was replenished only at the expense of Chinese imports.
Among the volume-forming segments of equipment in the third quarter, the largest drop in sales was recorded by backhoe loaders – by 81.9%, to 263 units. At the same time, the sale of crawler excavators fell only by 26.1%, to 1.2 thousand units. Sales of skid steer loaders decreased by 60.9% (156 units), wheel loaders – by 23.9% (303 units), telehandlers – by 87.4% (16 units).
Other segments of the market were also in the red: tracked tractors (by 21.5%, up to 357 units), wheeled excavators (by 34.9%, up to 290 units), self-propelled graders (by 5.8%, up to 213 units), articulated dump trucks (by 93.3%, up to 6 units), rigid dump trucks (by 50%, up to 50 units), wheeled bulldozers (by 25.6%, up to 32 units). Sales of pipelayers fell by 25.8% (23 units), tracked asphalt pavers – by 77.8% (10 units), two-drum vibratory rollers – by 73.1% (14 units), single-drum – by 59.8% (43 units) . At the same time, rollers with combined rollers and pneumatic wheeled rollers were not sold at all in July-September.
Domestic players have already summed up sales (see “Kommersant” of October 21).
