EU gas storages filled 90% much ahead of schedule – Kommersant

The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said that at present, European gas storage facilities are already 90% full. According to her, it happened much earlier than planned.

“Gas storage in the EU reached 90% well ahead of schedule. It will help us [ЕС] be safe this winter. Together we are weaning off Russian gas,” the head of the European Commission wrote on her account on the social network X (formerly called Twitter).

On the eve of the representative of the European Commission Stefan de Keersmaeker declaredthat the gas storage facilities of the European Union as of August 17 were filled by 89.99%. He noted that an abnormally warm winter in Europe contributed to this level of filling of gas storages.

The EU plans to fill gas storage facilities up to 90% by the heating season, which starts in Europe in October. In addition to gas storage facilities in the EU, European companies in July returned to the active use of Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities, which almost ceased after the outbreak of hostilities. In July, about 589 million cubic meters of gas were transferred to Ukraine for storage, which was the highest figure since February 2022.
