Ethiopia has temporarily banned air passengers from taking coffee out of the country - Kommersant

Ethiopian authorities have temporarily prohibited air passengers from taking coffee out of the country in any form or quantity. The Russian Embassy in Addis Ababa warned Russians to take this information into account when planning their trips.

“Due to the introduction of a new order by the customs authorities of Ethiopia, the export of Ethiopian coffee by air passengers in any form and in any quantity is temporarily prohibited. When planning your trips, in order to avoid unpleasant situations at the Ethiopian airport, we advise you to take this information into account,” the embassy said in a statement in Telegram.

Coffee accounts for the bulk of Ethiopia's export earnings. According to the International Coffee Organization, Ethiopia is the leading African country in coffee production and ranks fifth in the world for this indicator, behind Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia. In 2022, Ethiopia sold 384 thousand tons of grain. This is 3% of world production.
