Officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and organizations subordinate to it will be banned from using Apple mobile devices in work communications. The ban will take effect July 17. The newspaper reported Vedomosti.
An order to this effect, signed by First Deputy Minister Vasily Osmakov, was sent to employees of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on July 4. The department confirmed this information. According to an employee of one of the companies developing IT solutions, similar bans will be introduced in other major departments and regions in the near future.
The order of the Ministry of Industry and Trade indicates a direct ban on the use of “mobile devices (telephones, smartphones) manufactured by Apple in official activities.” Vasily Shpak, deputy head of the department, will monitor compliance with the ban.
In a conversation with Vedomosti, a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade recalled that in June the FSB released data “on the close cooperation of the American company Apple with the national intelligence community.” According to him, this shows that the privacy policy of personal data of device users is not true.
“On this basis, and also guided by the recommendations of the regulator, in order to ensure the protection of information, it was decided to stop using mobile devices (telephones, smartphones) manufactured by Apple in the official activities of all employees of the ministry and organizations subordinate to the ministry,” he said. Whether officials will be able to use iPads manufactured by Apple for work purposes, he did not say.

In June, the FSB reportedthat several thousand Apple devices of Russian diplomats were infected by US intelligence agencies with malware.
