At a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Culture held on February 14, Elena Yampolskaya admitted that the committee she heads is thinking about the question of what to do with the books of foreign agents located in domestic libraries.

“A lot of requests come from library workers who don’t understand what to do with the books of foreign agents and people who have been prosecuted under serious charges or included in terrorist lists, like Boris Akunin,” the deputy said. At the same time, Yampolskaya emphasized, we quote, that librarians are “gladly ready to get rid of” these books, “but so far they cannot do this legally.”

It is likely that legislative regulation of the “book problem” will be discussed at a meeting of the Public Council under the Culture Committee, scheduled for February 29.
