Representatives of Ecuador intend to visit Moscow in the near future to discuss resolving the problem with the supply of bananas. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador reported this on its page on the social network X. The dates of the trip are not specified.
“In the coming days, a mission of representatives of the Ecuadorian authorities will go to Moscow to overcome difficulties that became known six months ago, when the Ecuadorian authorities were informed about the phytosanitary problem with bananas,” the department’s press release said.
On February 2, Rosselkhoznadzor announced that the polyphagous humpback fly was systematically found in banana supplies from Ecuador. The agency threatened that if Ecuador does not take action, Russia “will be forced to move to the next stage of introducing restrictive measures.” By data Ecuador, this decision affected 25 thousand jobs and more than 3 thousand small producers.
Rosselkhoznadzor’s banana notice comes less than a month after Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa reported about plans to give the United States military equipment of Russian and Ukrainian origin in order to receive new equipment worth $200 million in return. Russia warned Ecuador that this could lead to negative consequences.
