“Don’t sit at home”: Sergei Zhukov was late to sue for the song “Hands Up”

The Moscow City Court rejected Sergei Zhukov’s appeal regarding the rights to the songs of the group “Hands Up”

The Moscow City Court rejected the appeal of singer Sergei Zhukov against the decision of the district court, which had previously refused to consider his claim to transfer the rights to the songs of the group “Hands Up”.

The Simonovsky Court heard the case in April 2023. According to the materials, the creation of the controversial phonograms in 1998 was initiated and financed by producer Andrei Malikov, and Zhukov acted as the author and performer. Subsequently, Jem Publishing House LLC and Andrei Malikov Technical and Production Center LLC signed agreements on the transfer of rights to the phonograms of the songs “Don’t sit at home”, “Where are you, girls?”, “I won’t give you to anyone” and others, which Zhukov has now tried to dispute.

The Moscow City Court explained that when making its decision, it proceeded from the fact that the plaintiff knew about the situation surrounding the rights, but for 20 years he did not take any action to challenge them.
