Donetsk muses are not afraid of shells: theaters have opened in the capital of the DPR

However, there are not many spectators yet

It is generally accepted that the muses become silent under the roar of guns. This is definitely not about Donetsk. The fact that the cultural life of the capital of the DPR is beginning to revive despite the massive shelling of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was confirmed by the acting Minister of Culture of the DPR, Mikhail Zheltyakov. In his interview, the head of the department noted that all the main theaters and the Philharmonic Society of Donetsk are open to spectators. Even if not in full, as we would like. However, the restrictions are primarily related to the safety of Donetsk residents.

The Donetsk Municipal Drama has partially returned to its work after almost two years. And if previously Donetsk was a rehearsal base for theatergoers, then already on January 27 last year, residents and guests of the regional capital were able to visit the “Stage on Sadovoy”.

Music drama artists not only delight the residents of military Donetsk with their performances, but also conduct educational activities, holding meetings with school students as part of the “Culture for Schoolchildren” campaign, talking about the intricacies of acting. They perform in the republic’s hospitals for wounded soldiers, take part in the exhibition-forum “Russia”, and travel around the country on Grand Tours.

The Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theater also updated its poster. On February 3, 2024, a real holiday awaited fans of the operetta genre on the Hall stage of the theater. A video review of the “Operetta Evening” was published on the theater’s official website.

The Donetsk Philharmonic opened its doors to spectators at the end of last year. In February, you can purchase tickets for concerts dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of A.S. Pushkin and the centenary of Mosfilm, listen to Soviet hits and attend a chamber music concert. The Puppet Theater on Ilyich Boulevard is waiting for its little visitors and their parents. The theater has already updated its poster for March and invites everyone to visit not only the performances, but also the puppet museum, which has opened on the ground floor of the cultural institution.

Museum lovers can visit the Donetsk Republican Art Museum, where an exhibition of Donbass artists, a local history museum or “Art-Donbass” opened on February 2.

For film buffs in Donetsk, the Funtura Cinema in the Donetsk City building, the cinema in the Golden Ring, the Shevchenko House of Cinema and the Zvezdochka cinema are open. All of them are located in the “risk zone” of the city, where enemy shells have landed more than once and where artillery salvos do not cease. You can order tickets online, by phone, or simply by coming a few minutes before the show. The once packed halls are now almost empty.

After the start of the NWO, the buildings of museums, theaters and cinemas were damaged more than once by Ukrainian shells. But now, almost two years later, the spotlights again illuminate the scenes, the film projectors have not stopped moving, despite the cannonade and empty streets. And shelling is not a valid reason not to attend a theater performance.
