Donetsk airport is planned to be restored in the next five years – Kommersant

Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said that during the hostilities, the Donetsk airport was severely damaged. However, according to him, the authorities plan to restore it in the next five years.
“In Donetsk, after the end of the special operation, we will also put the airport in order, respectively. It is badly damaged, but our plans, somewhere in the next five years, will definitely be restored, ”Mr. Khusnullin told reporters (quoted by TASS).
Speaking about the airport in Mariupol, Marat Khusnullin noted that it was also heavily damaged, but the runway “is in more or less decent condition.” In the next two years, according to Mr. Khusnullin, there are no plans to restore the airport. “But we have it in the three-year plan, we have set up survey work in Mariupol for the airport in 2026,” he said.
Fighting for the Donetsk airport began in March 2014. In January 2015, the current head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Alexander Zakharchenko announced the establishment of control over the Donetsk airport.
The plan for the restoration of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, as well as in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, was approved in 2022. According to the plan, the regions are planned to be restored in three years, that is, by 2026.
March 19, 2023 Mariupol visited Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the visit, Marat Khusnullin told him about the severe destruction of the Mariupol airport and plans for its restoration. “We expect that it will be a full-fledged airport with the ability to fly to all cities of Russia and abroad,” the Deputy Prime Minister said at the time. To a clarifying question from the president about the timing of the reconstruction, Mr. Khusnullin replied that it was planned to be completed in 2025.
