Director Uchitel urged not to pay attention to actors who criticize SVO

Director and producer Alexey Uchitel urged not to focus attention on the fact that in the film “The Flying Ship” he produced, actors played who condemned the Russian military operation in Ukraine. Of the artists involved in the film, Ksenia Rappoport criticized the special operation.

“There certainly can’t be any questions about the film. This movie is kind, good, wonderful. <...> We have small episodes where actors were filmed who expressed their negative position on certain issues. But we finished all the filming before the start of the special military operation. We cannot be responsible for what happened next,” said Mr. Uchitel in a conversation with TASS.

According to him, filming lasted three years. However, the project team cannot be held responsible for what happened after the work was completed. Alexey Uchitel also suggested that when watching a film, what is important to viewers is not the position of a particular artist, but what is happening on the screen. In this regard, he does not expect massive claims against the film.

Mr. Uchitel also emphasized that if Russia starts to “cancel” all the artists who, after filming their films, criticized the military operation in Ukraine, “then we could lose a lot in our cinema.” He added that this position is shared by “many professionals.”

The film “The Flying Ship” was directed by Alexei Uchitel’s son Ilya. The film stars Ksenia Rappoport, Alexander Metelkin, Ksenia Traister, Andrei Burkovsky, Sergei Garmash, Leonid Yarmolnik, Fedor Dobronravov, Anna Ukolova. The film will be released in wide release on March 7, 2024.
