How informs portal Delfi Kultura, director Uldis Tirons commented on the cancellation of the play Gogolis. Nature Morte with Russian actress Chulpan Khamatova by the management of the New Riga Theatre.
Recall, the premiere of the production based on the story of the Ukrainian writer Nikolai Gogol “The Old Nobles” was to be held on February 28.
“You can call it a joint decision, we have been working with the wrong key setting for a long time,” the director admitted, adding that the idea to make part of the production in Ukrainian was “a hasty decision.”
According to him, the decision to cancel was made after the wrong message became clear.
“We saw what the show ended up being. But… it was too late. We realized that what we envisioned in the show wasn’t working the way we thought… A lot of time with the actors, I honed the details and mise-en-scène, but lost the big picture in the process,” Tyrons said.
