Director Nikita Mikhalkov recently called on Russia not to send domestic films to the Oscars, in which actor and State Duma deputy Dmitry Pevtsov supported him, also accusing the organizers of the award of “propaganda of Satanism” and “globalism of perversions.” Director and journalist David Shneiderov criticized the statements of the artists, noting that they should curry favor less.
In conversation with the Blitz.plus portal Schneiderov noted that age can sometimes have a hard effect on a person. According to the director, Mikhalkov should have given up his Oscar in the current situation and abandoned the film Burnt by the Sun.
Schneiderov clarified that the Oscar is a “purely American film award”, where there is one nomination for “Best International Project”. The director considers it necessary to take part in the award in order to be in the cinematic process.
He also stated that Pevtsov literally repeated after Mikhalkov, adding a bit of himself about “Satanism”. Schneiderov is convinced that it is better for him to be an actor, “to play and be silent”, and not to run ahead of the locomotive, since this represents “the desire to curry favor.”
