The St. Petersburg Bolshoi Drama Theater (BDT) named after G. A. Tovstonogov will continue cooperation with Andrei Moguchiy, said TASS director of the BDT Tatyana Arkhipova. According to the director, the performances of the director will remain in the repertoire, and plans for new productions will be fully implemented.
“All this presupposes constant creative interaction with Andrei Anatolyevich … We are going the same course, as the traditions of the Bolshoi Drama Theater require. The theater of innovators and custodians, true artists and citizens of their country,” emphasized Mrs. Arkhipova.
Andrei Moguchiy was removed from the post of artistic director of the BDT on April 9 due to the expiration of the contract. On the same day, it became known that in the future the theater would work as a director’s institution (without an artistic director) – for this, the charter was updated there. Mr. Mighty has been in office for ten years, since 2013.
As Esther Steinbock pointed out in a column for Kommersant, Mr. Moguchiy could fall into the “category of unreliable” cultural figures after signing a letter from theater workers dated February 26, 2022. After that, the Ministry of Culture could put the artistic director “certain conditions for extending” the contract, to which he did not agree.
More about this – in the publication “Kommersant” “Operation Live”.
