The Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation reported that Nikolai Dostal died at the age of 77. The cause of death is not specified.

Nikolai Dostal was born on May 21, 1946 in Moscow. Mr. Dostal graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University in 1970, in 1972 – the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors, studied in the workshop of Georgy Danelia. Among the works of Nikolai Dostal are “A Man with an Accordion”, “Shura and Prosvirnyak”, “Cloud-Paradise”, “Small Demon”, “Monk and Demon” and others.
Nikolai Dostal was a member of the Russian Oscar Committee. In September he came out from the committee due to the refusal of the Russian Film Academy to nominate Russian films for the Oscars.
