Italian fashion designer Renato Balestra has died in a Roman hospital. He was 98 years old.

Renato Balestra was born on May 3, 1924 in Trieste. At the age of 30 he moved to Rome. He created stage images for Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Ava Gardner. In the 1950s he made his Hollywood debut, where he worked with actresses such as Zsa Zsa Gabor, Tina Louise, Joan Bennett and Natalie Wood. Among his clients were Liz Taylor, Claudia Cardinale, Yvonne Furneaux, as well as members of several royal families. According to the Italian media, Renato Balestra created the technique of “embroidery painting”.
