Artist Dmitry Vrubel has died at the age of 62. Shortly before his death, his wife Victoria Timofeeva reported that the artist’s heart “suddenly became very weak.” He suffered from the coronavirus. One of Mr. Vrubel’s most popular works is graffiti on the Berlin Wall, in which General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Leonid Brezhnev kisses Erich Honecker, Chairman of the State Council of the GDR.
The death of Mr. Vrubel is reported by many of his colleagues, journalists and politicians on Facebook (the social network belongs to Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). Among them are Milena Orlova, editor-in-chief of The Art Newspaper Russia, journalist Ksenia Larina, literary critic Gleb Morev, member of the European Parliament Sergei Lagodinsky.
Dmitry Vrubel was born in 1960 and studied at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute. Lived in Germany for the last few years. His work “Brotherly Kiss” was washed off a fragment of the Berlin Wall in 2009, after which the artist recreated the work.
