The Commission for Customs and Tariff Regulation under the Ministry of Economy is discussing an increase in customs duties on wine imports in Russia, Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Sazanov said. Now the duty rate is 12.5%.
“Whether duties will be increased and by how much – these issues are still being discussed. In the next month or two, we should come to some kind of decision,” Mr. Sazanov said in an interview. “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”.
According to him, the discussed parameters “enable to maintain price stability on the Russian wine market,” but he did not give any details. The Deputy Minister confirmed that the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers proposed to ban the supply of wine from unfriendly countries, but assured that there was no question of a ban on imports.
In May, the authorities of the Krasnodar Territory suggested raise import duties on foreign-made wine in order to “save the region’s market from low-quality products.” The head of Kuban, Veniamin Kondratiev, said that high demands are placed on the domestic product, while foreign companies supply “low-grade products” to stores, and called this situation unacceptable.
