Russian tour operators recorded a slight drop in demand for tours against the backdrop of a depreciation of the ruble against the dollar and the euro. Tourists also began to choose more budgetary and shorter tours. This was reported press office Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).
Tour sales are behind the August norm, TEZ Tour told ATOR. At the same time, the tour operator believes that it is too early to draw conclusions. A 10% reduction in bookings was also noted in Russian Express.
The BSI Group noted that Russian tourists do not refuse holidays, but choose more economical options. “There are two categories of tourists: some still book and pay for the planned vacation, others look at the conditions and, for example, shorten the trip by 1 day, choose a cheaper flight, change the type of room, but adjust the tour to fit the budget and still fly,” the tour operator said. .
ATOR Vice President and Space Travel CEO Artur Muradiae believes that tourists have adapted as the dollar has been gradually rising since May. At the same time, according to him, the depth of sales has decreased, payments for long-distance tours are not received.
Yesterday, August 14, the dollar on the Moscow Exchange exceeded 101 rubles, euro – 110 rubles, having updated the highs since March 2022. Presidential aide Maxim Oreshkin cited the loose monetary policy of the Central Bank as the reason for the weakening of the ruble. Today, August 15, the Central Bank at an unscheduled meeting raised key rate from 8.5% to 12%.
