Demand for green electricity in the Russian Federation has doubled

The volume of supplies under direct contracts for the purchase of green electricity from January to August 2023 more than doubled to 1.26 billion kWh, a representative of the Market Council (the energy market regulator) told Vedomosti.
We are talking about the purchase of electricity from solar (SPP), wind (WPP) and hydroelectric power plants (HPP) with zero or near-zero CO2 emissions under free bilateral agreements (FTA). Almost the entire volume, according to the interlocutor, is consumed in the wholesale electricity market.
