Deliveries of Russian energy resources to China grew by 40% in 2023 – Kommersant

The growth in the supply of Russian energy resources to China in 2023 amounted to 40%, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said at the Russian-Chinese business forum in Shanghai. In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister also said that Russia is now working with Chinese partners to supply the missing equipment for the energy industry, in particular catalysts.

“As for energy, this is one of the main areas for developing cooperation with China. There is a wide range of issues on cooperation, not only on the supply of energy resources, which are growing in large volumes and have grown significantly in 2022, and in 2023 there will be an increase of about 40%, ”said Alexander Novak (quoted by TASS).

In the field of technological equipment for the oil refining industry, Russia cooperates with the Chinese petrochemical corporation Sinopec: catalysts are supplied to Russia for joint production with this corporation.

The sanctions that the US and EU countries have imposed on Russia due to the military operation in Ukraine include a ban on the import of technologies for refineries, as well as a ban on the supply of refining catalysts, which are needed in 95% of refining technologies. According to the estimates of the Institute of National Energy, Russia’s dependence on the import of catalysts is very high, for various types it is 70–80%.

How reported earlier, the General Customs Administration of China, in the first four months, supplies of liquefied natural gas from Russia increased by 50%, to 2.14 million tons, in value terms – by 26.3%, to $ 1.65 billion. In terms of exports of this raw material, Russia ranks fourth behind Malaysia. The value of exports of pipeline gas for the same period amounted to $2.33 billion – in annual terms, it increased by 2.23 times. Export volumes of this raw material were not given.
