Prices for black and red caviar will not increase by the New Year. “Kommersant FM” talked with market participants and found out that the planned price increase has already occurred. However, this year the volume of black caviar production did not increase, but consumption increased. This was reflected in its value: over the year it increased by about 7%.
How much will you have to pay for a delicacy for the New Year’s table? A kilogram of black caviar will cost about 40 thousand rubles, said the owner of the Russian Caviar House company, Alexander Novikov: “Compared to last year, prices have increased by 5-7%. The main reasons for this were the increase in demand for this product and the dollar exchange rate. Until now, the main ingredients necessary for the production of feed are the foreign exchange component, which has risen in price by about 22-23%.
If we talk about prices, the most expensive caviar can cost 150 thousand rubles. per kilogram. Moreover, last year only about 19 tons of products were imported legally. However, the total volume in 2022 was 55 tons. The bulk of counterfeit products is caviar, which is imported from the People’s Republic of China, repackaged here, given the “Made in Russia” label and supplied to retail chains.”
With red caviar the situation is a little simpler. Over the three quarters of this year, its production increased to 20 thousand tons, which is three times more than in 2022, Rosrybolovstvo reported. As a result, the delicacy began to become cheaper. According to the specialized association, in November the cost of pink salmon caviar decreased by a quarter compared to the same month in 2022.
Now one 100 gram jar of red caviar costs about 800 rubles. A kilogram will cost at least 4 thousand rubles. And this will not change until the New Year, noted Alexander Kornev, president of the Association of Industrial and Trade Enterprises of the Fish Market:
“This year was much better than last year in terms of caviar. But we started with very high prices, then a correction occurred. If in 2022 the main increase in product costs occurred after the New Year, then in the first half of 2024 the situation will be more stable.
Our demand now is normal, before the New Year. Peak sales will occur in the last two weeks of December. Prices now are the same, plus or minus, as last year.
In wholesale they amount to around 3.5-4.5 thousand rubles. per kilogram depending on quality. Price tags will not change until the New Year.”
Prices for caviar on the domestic market are also supported by export dynamics. This year it is half as much as last year, which allowed us to saturate the domestic market. The trend also affected black caviar – supplies abroad decreased by 14%. True, as Rosrybolovstvo notes, the import of these delicacies has sharply decreased.
