Death of Jonathan Destin, victim of harassment, whose story had been adapted into fiction by TF1

The young man, who had set himself on fire, died at his mother’s house. He had testified in a book that the front page had transposed to the screen in 2018.
“To all those who knew Jonathan, through his story, his book, his film, in schools, who one day met him, spoke to you, who have been following us for so many years, I unfortunately have sad news. to let you know. Jonathan passed away on Saturday at my home in his sleep. In a message posted on Facebook, the mother of Jonathan Destin announced his death.
The 27-year-old, from Marquette-lez-Lille in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, was known to have been the victim of school harassment from CM2. At 16, after six years of ordeal, he set himself on fire and then threw himself into a canal to escape the flames. “I was afraid of reprisals: some of my attackers had threatened to kill my parents if I spoke”explained to Figaro in 2015 the one who had been threatened by a firearm.

Survivor but burned to 72%, he then spent more than two months in an artificial coma. Determined to tell his story, he co-wrote a book with Marie-Thérèse Cuny (doomed to kill meEditions XO), then made it his fight, through the association created by his parents, Tous solidaires avec Jonathan. “I would like my testimony to serve as an example to other victims of bullying, whether they experience it in school or at work”confided Jonathan Destin to the Figaro.
In 2018, TF1 adapted his story into fiction. Worn by Camille Chamoux and Michaël Youn, the fiction titled The day I burned my heart had met with great success, bringing together 6.3 million viewers, or 25.7% audience share.
