From September 8, the Czech Republic will have access to a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal under construction in the port of Eemshaven in the Netherlands, based on a previously won tender. The Czech Republic, through the energy company CEZ Group, leased a third of the capacity of the Dutch terminal, that is, a part designed for 3 billion cubic meters. m of gas per year. Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Josef Sikela said that up to 1.5 billion cubic meters could be transported to the Czech Republic during the upcoming heating season. m. CEZ has already organized transport routes. Gas from a terminal in the Netherlands will help reduce dependence on Russian gas by about a third.
CEZ is currently negotiating with various LNG suppliers to get as much liquefied natural gas as possible for the upcoming heating season. It is expected that the Dutch terminal will be used immediately after its launch, that is, around mid-September.
Mr. Sikela said that about two thirds of the annual gas consumption is currently provided in the Czech Republic. After the winter, the tanks will have to be refilled. Now they are supplied with gas, which comes from Russia. Recall that on the eve of Gazprom stopped pumping through the Nord Stream for an indefinite period.
