“Cuckoo” of discord: Tsoi’s song was not heard in the court of Kormukhina against Gagarina

The meeting promised to turn into a mini-concert

The Moscow City Court was not able to listen to the Cuckoo today. The famous song by Viktor Tsoi was supposed to be performed in the temple of justice as part of the lawsuit of the singer Olga Kormukhina against her colleague Polina Gagarina.

The case of Kormukhina against Gagarina is being heard again. In 2020, the Tverskoy Court rejected the plaintiff’s claims. Recall that the arrangement for Tsoi’s song “Cuckoo” became a bone of contention in relations between the performers. Kormukhina is sure that the remake was created by her husband, frontman of the Gorky Park rock band Alexei Belov. The singer filed a lawsuit after Polina Gagarina performed a hit for the soundtrack to the film “Battle for Sevastopol”. Copyright for the version of “Cuckoo” performed by Gagarina was registered by producer Konstantin Meladze. The first consideration of the case took place in the Tverskoy Court of the capital. Kormukhina’s claim was rejected. Subsequently, the Moscow City Court overturned the decision of the first instance and retained the case, deciding to reconsider it from scratch.

As part of this, the second in a row, process, an examination was carried out. The goal is to determine how Kormukhina’s “Cuckoo” is similar or not similar to Gagarina’s “Cuckoo”. Just today, the parties expected that the trio of judges would listen to both tracks, as well as one more – the experts put both versions of the song on top of each other.

But it didn’t work out. The few press that came to the meeting, which promised to turn into a mini-concert, cuckooed near the hall for more than three hours. When the hearing finally began, it became clear that “the music did not play for long.” The meeting had to be postponed at the start. The representative of Polina Gagarina made a number of serious petitions and demanded a re-examination. The three judges took a time-out until tomorrow, September 23rd.
