Crazy “Express” with two producers took away all the awards from Vyborg

The XXX Vyborg Film Festival “Window to Europe” ended four times with the victory of Ruslan Bratov, by far the best film of the current game competition “Express”. However, after such an incident, the directorate of the film screening should be written in the regulations, as they did at a number of major world festivals: he awarded the award for the best film – stop, take a closer look at other films, do not shower the winner, who already received the highest rating, with golden rain.
The jury of the game competition, led by film director Alexei Fedorchenko, which included experienced filmmakers, sat until three in the morning and couldn’t think of anything better than how to bring down a clip of prizes for Express: Best Film, Best Director (moreover, these awards are vaguely merged, so it remains unclear whether this is one prize or two), for camera work and an ensemble cast. At the same time, worthy works were not limited to this. They were. The competition this year is interesting, although not without obvious problems.
“I won’t say that it was a simple decision, although it arose at the tenth minute of the discussion, when we had not yet reached the place of discussion, but on the way we already made it,” Alexei Fedorchenko explained the unusual decision. – But then they got scared of him and shuffled the deck for three and a half hours, convincing themselves that we could make some other decision, to compromise. As a result, at half past two in the morning they decided that the decision was the right one and that they should not step on their own and others’ throats. Ruslan Bratov personally presented his film, and then left for the shooting, so producers, whose names were not named, jumped out onto the stage, like two from a casket. Yes, they themselves called themselves “two producers” and reminded with their outputs the dashing 90s at Kinotavr.
“The main prize is responsibility. Each show opened with a frame from Andrei Rublev, which calls for mercy and love. We would like this call to be heard today,” said one of them, already pretty comfortable after the fourth run on the stage.
The student of Andrey Eshpay, debutante Alfie Khaibibullina, who became famous overnight in cinematographic circles, was more fortunate than other participants from those who remained behind Express. She filmed the film “Emperor” in Vyborg, where the group arrived a week earlier to rehearse in locations. Cameraman Daniil Fomichev unexpectedly filmed a city familiar to us, which became unrecognizable under the gunpoint of his camera. And they were looking for a remote northern city at first in Kaliningrad and the Moscow region, but in terms of atmosphere, coldness and abandonment, Vyborg turned out to be closer.
The Emperor received an award from journalists, and the jury received a special mention for the duo of antagonists. The diploma, therefore, went to young actors who played high school students. For a graduate of the Theater Institute. Schepkin Vladimir Sarapultsev Alfiya did not immediately pay attention, but when she met, she realized that he was exactly what was needed. The young actor played a major role in a big feature project for the first time and turned out to be very cinematic, some kind of alien on the screen. Preparing for work, Vladimir began to run, lived in the apartment of his hero, accumulating the necessary energy. His partner, 24-year-old Danil Tyabin, seems too mature for a schoolboy, too bright and self-sufficient against the background of less experienced young artists, professional and non-professional, but working with documentary accuracy.
Daria Yekamasova, who hosted the awards ceremony, received the award for Best Actress in her debut film “On the Eve”. As film critic Armen Medvedev said, this is the first time in the entire 30-year history of the festival that the hostess of the ceremony has received a prize. The role attracted her from the first lines, because it was said that she was a 35-year-old woman who suddenly became ten years older. She experiences many different states associated with a married lover, a strange acquaintance with his son from his first marriage. The image turned out to be somehow flashing like light, with halftones, and as Daria herself said, the director Alisa Erokhina, who is ten years younger than her, came up with the polyphony of the character.
“Velga” by Anastasia Nechaeva was also awarded a special mention by the jury for the best musical solution, the author of which was the well-known film composer Anton Silaev. The main role in the film, based on Ivan Bunin, was played by Olga Bodrova. The picture was filmed in the Murmansk region, in places where no one has filmed yet.
The talented actress of the Pyotr Fomenko Workshop, daughter of Sergei Bodrov Jr. Olga Bodrova recalls: “We had freedom and co-creation. This is a debut for Anastasia and for me too. We helped each other, studied together and found a way, looked for words in order to understand and hear each other. In such a joint search, our work took place. We had a long trial period. One of the main challenges in finding the actors was that we fit together so that you can believe that we are friends. We all lived together in a beautiful village on the White Sea, went to the site together in a huge green bus. We were always together, and it helped us.”
Here, in fact, are all the awards of the game competition, which consisted of 11 paintings. As the jury member, cameraman and Stanislav Lyubshin’s son Yury Lyubshin said, if the director survived until the last day of filming, then he can already be given an award, at least for the fact that he remained alive. And if he still made a great picture, then you can invent something interesting in general. But for some reason it turned out uninteresting and even dead end. The festival was gloomy. Only “two producers” rejoiced.
Evgeny Tsyganov represented Aleksey Uchitel’s “Walk” in Vyborg, which was shown there almost 20 years ago, left and returned again to leave an imprint of his hand, which was destined for a place on the Avenue of Stars. The ceremony took place in an ancient fortress, where the imprint was taken in public. Eugene wished us all freedom and air, an open window to Europe and a world without borders, and at that moment a white dove flew in, about which they joked that it was nothing more than from neighboring Finland, which is within easy reach.
