The magistrate fined the WhatsApp messenger (owned by Meta, whose activities are banned in Russia as extremist) for 3 million rubles. for refusing to delete a chat with offers to sell Lyrica, an antidepressant drug, TASS reports. Fine under Part 2 of Art. 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (non-deletion by the site owner of information) in relation to WhatsApp was appointed for the first time.
According to the materials of the case cited by the agency, the decision to impose a fine was made due to sending users through one of the messenger chats an offer to sell Lyrica, which was discovered by an employee of Roszdravnadzor. It is alleged that it was proposed to transfer Lyrica, including through delivery through Yandex.Taxi.
Roszdravnadzor forwarded information about the distribution of the drug to Roskomnadzor, which demanded that Meta’s management delete this chat. Since the requirement was not met, an administrative offense case was initiated against WhatsApp LLC. Representatives of the company did not participate in the court session.
“Lyrika” is a medical drug that is used to treat epilepsy, neuropathic pain, anxiety disorders, neurotic and neurosis-like conditions. The drug is not considered a drug, but with constant use it causes mental and physical dependence. The turnover of “Lyrika” in Russia is limited.
