Conductor Yuri Bashmet received a government award in the field of culture

Government awards for 2023 were awarded to cultural figures at the Government House. One of the prize winners was the conductor of the New Russia State Symphony Orchestra, Yuri Bashmet. A total of 17 people were awarded.
“Today I am especially pleased that this ceremony coincided with the birthday of one of the laureates – Yuri Abramovich Bashmet, a virtuoso violist and conductor who is known in Russia and far beyond its borders,” Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin noted in his opening speech (quoted by website government).
The conductor received a prize for creating the Requiem concert “June 22. Exactly at 4 am” in honor of the 80th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. Yuri Bashmet was the author of the project, artistic director and chief conductor of the concert. Dmitry Grinchenko and Sergey Shirokov were also awarded for the concert.
Yuri Bashmer was born on January 24, 1953. During his career, he received the title of People’s Artist of the USSR, the title of Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation, laureate of the USSR State Prize, four State Prizes of the Russian Federation and a Grammy Award.
