Concert in Istanbul Zemfira brought fans to tears

From the very beginning, Zemfira’s career developed in front of ZD, and for all these years we have not missed a single significant concert or tour of the singer. The tour in support of the Borderline album is Zemfira’s first tour without Russian dates, but the current circumstances are no reason to leave these concerts without a review. Zemfira again confirms the reputation of an artist who can make people talk about herself. It seems that she is far away, she doesn’t particularly indulge in loud statements, but they still can’t leave her alone. From the very beginning, the Borderline tour caused a storm of emotions: from hysterical delight to ostentatious gloating. The reason for the latter was, of course, the scope of the concerts. Halls with a capacity of three to six thousand people (commensurate with the Moscow arena Music Media Dome, where Zemfira gave two full houses on February 24 and 26) can hardly be called small; however, in comparison with the two “Olympic”, collected by the singer in 2016 in the final of the “Little Man” tour, all this seems very modest.
A fair amount of bile spilled on the actual earnings of the star. Like, the fat times are over, now there are no millions. Although the singer is clearly not performing for a pittance. Democratic tickets for her shows in Europe cost a little less than a hundred euros, those that are more expensive cost almost two hundred. A little in comparison with the prices for “Rollings” or U2, but also quite a European price. So all the screams about the shame and failure of our rock diva are more likely because of the desire to shout, and not because of considerations of objectivity.
The other day, a video of Zemfira’s Istanbul concert appeared on the Web. It turned out to be not as secular as in Tel Aviv (no prima donna on the balcony), but at the same time very revealing in everything related to music.
How it looked
Dark, but expressive. There is an ominous red light and people in black on the stage, a noisy introduction to “Pills” sounds, Zemfira herself comes out, and rock and roll passions begin to boil. The first five tracks are dedicated to the album Borderline, and the live sound once again confirms how different the songs turned out to be for this release. The wall of nervous sound on “OK” and the meditative “Coat” seem to be from different operas, but at the concert the songs sound almost close, and this clearly gives the audience a feeling of a contrasting soul.
The gathered people do not need to warm up at all, and after a couple of tracks something very similar to euphoria reigns in the hall. They say that the artist herself does not really like it when the concert looks like the greatest hits, however, it would be wrong to call her greedy for hits. Closer to the middle of the action, bright greetings from the past sound: “Live in Your Head”, “PMML”, “Walk”, “SkySeaClouds”, “Iskala”.
“I really want peace,” the singer says and performs “Don’t Shoot.” This concludes the main program, but the passions seething in the stalls are clearly conducive to encore, since Zemfira still has a lot of hits. Under the growing roar of the crowd, “Different”, “Why” and “T-shirts” are heard. “Thank you, hospitable Istanbul, including for accepting my compatriots,” Zemfira thanks and sings “Do you want.” An enthusiastic rumble, a general bow – it seems that everyone is happy, as far as this word is generally appropriate now.

Shooting resembles amateur or disguised as amateur. The sound is recorded on a good microphone, so there is no feeling of peeping and eavesdropping, which is typical for telephone concert recordings. In fact, the entire shooting rests on two plans – a general one and a larger one, but even with such a poor visual set, the energy of the artist and the public literally bubbles in each frame. The concert goes on for almost an hour and a half, all this time the camera is in one place, but the language does not dare to call this spectacle boring.
Separately, you can note the general atmosphere. Concerts in a foreign land often turn out to be somehow tearful, but here there was not even a hint of the emigrant plaintive “God Save the Tsar.” Everything is rock and roll famously, in full growth and in full voice.
Minuses
They have more to do not with this concert, but with the circumstances around. The very situation in which the singer, whose poetic talent is not without reason compared with Tsvetaeva or Akhmatova, conducts her tour not where they speak the language of all her songs, looks completely absurd, if not tragic. Oh, this is a Russian field of experiments.
