As a result of negotiations with Germany, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was able to return to the country 77 objects belonging to the pre-Columbian era and which were in private collections in Europe. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia.
The statement notes that these works of art, which have been in the hands of private collectors in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate in western Germany since the 1970s, represent the characteristics of ceramic and metal products associated with pre-Hispanic period styles from the archaeological regions of Tayrona, San Agustin, Guane, Calima and Quimbaya.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the first year of Gustavo Petro’s presidency, 539 items of historical value were returned to Colombia. Artifacts have been discovered in the US, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK.
