Cognac sales in the Russian Federation increased by 10.5% in January-September – Kommersant

In the first nine months of 2023, cognac sales in Russia amounted to 9.7 million deciliters (dal), which is 10.5% more than in the same period last year. Vodka sales amounted to 55.6 million decaliters, decreasing year-on-year by 0.3%, reports Interfax with reference to data from Rosalkogoltabakcontrol.

The service calculated that from January to September this year, Russians bought 162.4 million dal of alcoholic beverages, which is 4.4% more than in the first nine months of 2022. In this indicator, Rosalkogoltabakcontrol did not take into account the sales of beer, beer drinks, cider, poire, mead, as well as alcohol in the public catering system, the agency reports.

It is reported that in September the volume of retail alcohol sales in Russia amounted to 18.2 million decaliters, an increase of 5.9% in annual terms. Sales of vodka in September decreased by 1.7% year-on-year, to 6.3 million decaliters. Sales of alcoholic beverages in the Russian Federation for the month amounted to 9.6 million decaliters, which is 2.2% more than in September 2022, the department reports.

In the first nine months of 2023, sales of grape wines in Russia amounted to 41.9 million decaliters (+5.9% year-on-year), in September – 4.6 million decaliters (+9.3%). The volume of sales of sparkling wines from January to September reached 13.4 million decaliters (+9.9%), in September – 1.3 million decaliters (+15.9%). According to the service, sales of fruit wines over the nine months increased to 9.1 million decaliters (+18.2%), in September – to 964.9 thousand decaliters (+24.2%), liqueur wines – to 881.3 thousand dal for nine months (+75%) and up to 96.4 thousand dal (+24.3%) in September.

Sales of low-alcohol products from January to September 2023 increased by 17.5%, to 12.9 million decaliters. In September, this figure amounted to 1.4 million decaliters (+20.9%), according to data from Rosalkogoltabakkontrol.

Due to the increase in excise taxes, rising prices for imported materials and logistics, the largest alcohol companies in Russia asked the Ministry of Finance to raise the minimum prices for vodka by 7%, to 301 rubles, from 2024. per 0.5 liter bottle at retail. According to experts, overcoming the 300 rub. on vodka could lead to market stagnation.
