Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Sergey Mochalnikov said that in January-May, coal supplies from Russia to China and India increased compared to the previous year. He did not give exact data.
“We are also going with a plus compared to the previous year. The prevailing market, as usual, is the Asia-Pacific region and the countries of the global South, respectively, all our consumers are mainly located there,” Mr. Mochalnikov told RIA Novosti in response to a question about coal supplies over the past five months.
In 2022, after Western sanctions, Russia redirected energy exports to Asian countries. The main buyers of Russian coal, oil and gas are China and India. Russian exports to India from April 2022 to January 2023 increased almost four times. Growth was primarily provided by the supply of oil, coal and fertilizers. At the end of fiscal year 2022, coal imports to India increased by 30%, up to 162.46 million tons.
