Arkady Volozh, who left Yandex in December last year, spoke out against Russia’s military actions on the territory of Ukraine, follows from the businessman’s official statement.
“I am categorically against Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine, where I, like many others, have friends and relatives,” Mr. Volozh said in a statement.
He clarified that since 2014 he has not lived in Russia, he is in Israel, but he understands that he “has a share of responsibility for the actions of the country.” In December last year, Mr. Volozh, in an address to Yandex employees, announced that he was leaving the company.
The text of Mr. Volozh’s appeal was distributed on the company’s internal portal, it was published by The Bell Telegram channel (included in the register of foreign agents).
Shares of “Yandex” on the Moscow Exchange reacted to the statement with a slight decrease. At 12:35 they lose 1.08% (2,693.8 rubles per share)
On June 3, 2022, Yandex co-founder Arkady Volozh was included in the EU sanctions list. This was argued by the fact that the main shareholders of Yandex are the state-owned banks Sberbank and VTB, which fell under the sanctions. On the same day, Yandex announced that Mr. Volozh was leaving all positions in the company. He served as CEO of the Dutch Yandex NV (the parent company of Yandex) and was a member of its board of directors.
