The General Administration of Customs (GCU) of the People’s Republic of China lifted 15-year restrictions on the export of pork from Russia, reported press service of Rosselkhoznadzor. This decision was made based on the results of a risk assessment and analysis of the state control system for African swine fever (ASF) in Russia.
The press service report notes that now the State Technical University will additionally formulate inspection and quarantine requirements for pork supplies from Russia.
Supply restrictions were introduced in 2008. Since 2013, Rosselkhoznadzor has been working to allow pork to enter the Chinese market, including organizing visits by the Chinese side to Russian enterprises. The purpose of such visits was to familiarize Chinese representatives with the instruments of state control over the safety of pig products and to prevent the spread of ASF.
As of September 25, Rosselkhoznadzor has identified 72 ASF outbreaks since the beginning of the year, of which 41 were among domestic pigs. ASF is not dangerous to humans, but when the virus spreads to the territory of another state, the risk of a reduction in the number of pigs increases. On September 25, the Southern Interregional Directorate of Rosselkhoznadzor reported that 57 thousand pigs would be eliminated in the Krasnodar Territory in September due to the spread of African plague among animals.
