China launches probe into largest US microchip maker

Cybersecurity Authority (CAC) of China announced about the launch of an investigation against the American semiconductor manufacturer Micron Technology.
The Chinese regulator intends to test Micron products shipped to China for hidden national security threats, given that the American company’s technology is used in China’s “critical” telecommunications infrastructure.
Micron stated Reutersthat she is aware of the ongoing investigation by the Chinese authorities and that she is “in touch with the CAC and fully cooperating” with the regulator. The company added that it monitors the safety of its products and commitments to customers.
Earlier, the US authorities repeatedly imposed sanctions against Chinese technology companies under the same pretext – because of the threat to national security. The United States also banned the import of American advanced technologies to China, arguing that they could be used by China for military purposes. At the same time, the USA coordinate its efforts to export restrictions to China with other major microchip manufacturers: the Netherlands and Japan. In addition, in March the US announced on the signing of a memorandum of cooperation in the field of semiconductors with India.
